One child's story
Here's a story of how a little boy found a 'new Mum and Dad'...
“Before I was adopted I used to sit on my bed and think, ‘when will I get a new Mum and Dad?’
When I first met them it felt strange, but I was happy because it was fun and we did loads of things like going on a steam train and playing cricket. I thought my new Mum was very nice and very in control of things and it made me feel safe. I thought my new Dad was very funny and he said things to make me laugh, like ‘fiddle-dee-flip’ whenever something went wrong.
I like it when they say ‘I love you’ and ‘you’re a very special boy’ and ‘you’re worth ten million of everyone else’. I like hugs and kisses and the fact that they love me even when I’m naughty.
Now it just feels normal, like I’ve always been in this family and I don’t really feel different from anyone else. Sometimes I miss my brothers and sisters in my birth family but I can write if I want to.”
