We have recently adopted a little girl - a long awaited sister for our birth child.
Our journey has taken about 18 months from our initial “expression of interest” and has been a really positive experience. There are some very useful training sessions along the way and a lot of support throughout the process so you are never on your own.
Our Social Worker has been superb throughout and always been at the end of the telephone whenever we needed it. The adoption team have been very friendly and supportive throughout the entire time. We have also become friends with the other adopters who were on our course and have remained in contact to support each other along the way, this has really helped us.
We were matched very quickly after our approval and the matching process for our little girl was “spot on” - her personality and habits were very similar to our own child. It didn’t take any time at all for her to feel part of our family.
We cannot thank all those enough who have been involved along the way in helping us find our little girl, especially the foster parents and our little girl‘s Social Worker. We would not rule out going through the process again for a further sibling in the future.
We would urge all those prospective adopters out there - even remotely considering adoption, that it is so worthwhile and gives a child a chance of a happy secure future outside of the care system.
