About the Adoption Team
Somerset County Council is an approved adoption agency that works to find new homes for children placed in the care of the authority.
The adoption service was re-structured in June 2010 to provide a dedicated service for adoption across the county. The specialist team aims to deliver an improved service for children needing adoptive families, families who adopt, adopted adults seeking birth records counseling, birth families seeking support and staff who support children needing adoptive families.
We work closely with childcare social workers and other professionals to bring expertise across children’s services and to make the processes of matching, the placement of children, and support to adoptive families, as smooth as possible.
We continually strive to be efficient and are always seeking to improve what we do. We value the views of everyone who uses the adoption service and we welcome any feedback and ideas on how it might be improved and delivered more effectively.
